What is the right to be forgotten?
In many places you can legally require a company to delete the personal data it holds about you. Here is what that covers, where it applies, and how 8PWD helps you use it.
A plain-language explainer. Not legal advice — rules differ by country and change over time.
The idea
In many places you have a legal right to ask a company to delete the personal data it holds about you — your account, your history, your profile.
Where it applies
The EU and UK (GDPR, Article 17), California (CCPA), Brazil (LGPD), and a growing list of other countries have similar rules. Elsewhere, most sites still offer deletion voluntarily.
What you can ask for
Deletion of your account and data, confirmation that it's done, and usually a copy of your data first if you want it.
What they can refuse
Data they must keep by law (tax records, fraud prevention), or that's needed for a contract you still have with them.
How long it takes
Under GDPR, companies must answer within one month. Others vary. Keep the confirmation email.
How 8PWD helps
The Account deletion guide shows where each site's delete option is and gives you a ready-made request template. Everything is looked up on this device.
Informational only. For your situation, consult the relevant authority or a lawyer.
