A password manager you pay for once
Most password managers rent you access to your own passwords. 8PWD takes the older model: a free plan that is complete, one payment for the rest, and a backup file you can read without us.
Why subscriptions became the norm — and why 8PWD doesn't need one
Cloud password managers run servers. Your vault is copied there, synced from there, scanned there for breaches. Servers cost money every month, so the product has to cost money every month.
8PWD has no server. The vault lives on your device and nowhere else; the app contains no networking code of its own. There is nothing for us to pay for monthly, so there is nothing to charge you for monthly.
What the free plan includes
Everything. AutoFill in Safari and apps, two-factor codes, Wi‑Fi passwords with QR codes, members, groups, the security score, scheduled local backups and export — all of it, for up to 10 passwords. Wi‑Fi networks don't count towards the limit.
It is not a trial. It does not expire, and nothing nags you to upgrade until you add the eleventh password.
What Pro costs
- Lifetime — US$99.00, one payment, Family Sharing. The price we designed the app around.
- Yearly — US$29.99 per year with a 7-day free trial, Family Sharing — if you prefer to subscribe.
- Monthly — US$5.99 per month, for a short stint.
One purchase covers iPhone, iPad and Mac on the same Apple ID; the App Store shows the price in your currency. Restore Purchases brings it back on a new device.
What happens if you stop paying
Nothing is deleted. If a subscription lapses, every record you already have stays available for viewing, search, copy and AutoFill; only adding beyond the free limit needs Pro again. Export works at any time, Pro or not — the file is yours.
The honest trade-off
No server also means no sync. A password added on your phone is not on your Mac until you carry it over with an encrypted .8pwd file or share one record by AirDrop. If you need changes to appear on every device within seconds, a cloud manager is the better tool and we would rather you picked one.
